Maria Grachvogel – The Perfect Fit

Maria has an approach to the fit of her clothes, which is not often found in the fashion industry. She does not believe in having a fit model, which limits the figures an item of clothing will suit. By trying on every garment in her collection, to understand its feel, and then fitting on the women in her team for a variety of body shapes, she has managed to make outfits that suit not one body type but many. A dress may look one way on a pear shaped woman, but because of some tactfully placed centimeters of material it will fit an hourglass woman too. It may fall and look slightly different but be equally as flattering.

Seasonally Maria designs vibrant artwork prints to accompany her designs. Unlike normal print production, which is made on a roll of fabric, Grachvogel’s designs are made to the shape of her clothes, specifically for a design.

When asked to describe her overall style, Grachvogel describes it as a relaxed easy glamour. Her creations are easy to wear, glamorous and versatile. Pieces will wash easily; go from day to night and double as an evening or beach dress. Pulling from her own life experience of running her own fashion business, expanding to Asia and having a 3 year old son, she found that it was essential to have clothes that work for everything from breakfast to after dinner drinks.

Among her most recognizable pieces are her Magic Pants, which have women coming back season after season for their flattering fit. Her jumpsuit could be easily described as the physical embodiment of her style. It is easy glamour – a well fitted complete outfit – Maria herself got married in one of the jumpsuits so that she could dance all night!

I’ve been a great admirer of Maria’s work for years, her start in the industry was a great encouragement to me as a fellow designer. Love the fluidity and structure of her clothing along with the artwork in her designs,
